A county board member is an elected official representing a district, responsible for county governance, setting policy, managing budgets, overseeing public services (like health, roads, parks), and ensuring transparent government, working within a system that includes an elected County Executive for administration, acting as a legislative body for the county. See the next county wide officials section to learn about County Executive as well as other county officials in question on the ballot.
Some, but not all, county board member positions will be up for election. One way to see which positions will be on next year's ballot is to see which terms of these hard working board members will be done in November 30, 2026 here.

Below are several different items that are mentioned to be on the ballots coming up according to the Champaign County Clerk’s website. I’ve personally found ballot language confusing in the past, so below I’ve broken down each question and provided some background on what you're being asked:
SECTION: CHAMPAIGN COUNTY
The following are questions that may be on the ballot are called non-binding advisory questions to gauge public opinion. None of these are actionable, but they will be informative to the Champaign County Board on how to move forward with recovering the structural deficit.
Question 1.Choose one of the 2:
To address Champaign County’s General Fund structural deficit, I support
raising taxesor
cutting personnel and services
Question 2.
To address Champaign County’s General Fund structural deficit, I support an increase to sales tax on purchase of goods (not including food and medicine) in Champaign County.
Yes or No
Question 3.
To address Champaign County’s General Fund structural deficit, I support an increase to the County’s property tax rate that could result in paying a higher property tax.
Yes or No
SECTION: THOMASBORO COMMUNITY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT 130
The following is also a proposition, which can be defined as proposals that voters like you can decide on during elections. They can create new laws, change existing ones, or approve project funding.
PROPOSITION TO INCREASE THE LIMITING RATE:Shall the limiting rate under the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law for Thomasboro Community Consolidated School District Number 130, Champaign County, Illinois, be increased by an additional amount equal to 1.0000% above the limiting rate for school purposes for levy year 2024 and be equal to 3.1198% of the equalized assessed value of the taxable property therein for levy year 2026?
The approximate amount of taxes extendable at the most recently extended limiting rate is $902,020, and the approximate amount of taxes extendable if the proposition is approved is $1,327,542.
For the 2026 levy year the approximate amount of the additional tax extendable against property containing a single family residence and having a fair market value at the time of the referendum of $100,000 is estimated to be $333.
If the proposition is approved, the aggregate extension for 2026 will be determined by the limiting rate set forth in the proposition, rather than the otherwise applicable limiting rate calculated under the provisions of the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law (commonly known as the Property Tax Cap Law).
SECTION: FISHER COMMUNITY LIBRARY DISTRICT
The next one is a binding public question, which means that it is legally enforceable, which makes it an actionable item given a majority of those that answer yes versus no on the ballot.
ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW LIBRARY TAX DISTRICT CALLED THE FISHER COMMUNITY LIBRARY DISTRICTShall a public library district be established in the territory described as the boundaries of the Fisher Community Unit School District 1, to be known as the Fisher Community Library District, and shall the district have authority to levy an annual tax not to exceed 0.15% of the equalized assessed value of taxable property in said district?
SECTION: MAHOMET PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT
The following is a proposition which can be defined as proposals that voters like you can decide on during elections. They can create new laws, change existing ones, or approve project funding.
PROPOSITION TO ISSUE $8,925,000 LIBRARY BONDS:Shall bonds of the Mahomet Public Library District, Champaign County, Illinois, in the amount of $8,925,000 be issued for the purpose of repairing, improving and building an addition to the existing library building?
BACKGROUND:
In Illinois, when a taxing district is under the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law (PTELL), commonly known as "tax caps," its ability to increase property taxes is limited to the lesser of 5% or the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).Increasing the limiting rate under PTELL means that the taxing district is asking voters to approve a higher maximum tax rate, effectively allowing the district to break through the standard, capped increase to generate more tax revenue than the usual CPI formula allows. In summary, while increasing the limiting rate under PTELL means explicitly asking voters to allow a higher tax rate than the state-mandated cap, directly resulting in higher property tax bills, it would at least allow more funds for the district rather than it being used for other counties.

Recently, Dick Durbin announced he would not seek reelection in 2026 for the Senate seat that he currently shares with Tammy Duckworth. There are only 2 US senators that represent us in congress versus the 59 state senators that represent us at the state level. You can see the candidates for the state senators in the below accordion section “State Senator for Illinois”
Here are the candidates still in the race and their party alignment:

Similar to the differences between US Senator for Illinois and State Senator for Illinois races, the State House of Representatives for Illinois is the Congressional level for the state rather than the Congressional level that represents us in Washington, D.C.
